THE SAINTS AND THE ANGELS.9.11.21
THE SAINTS AND THE ANGELS
Saint Margarita María de Alacoque (1647-1690) says: I had the joy of frequently enjoying the presence of my guardian angel and of being also frequently rebuked by him … I could not tolerate the slightest immodesty or lack of respect in the presence of my Lord sacramented, before which I saw him prostrate on the ground and wanted me to do the same1
Blessed Anne Catherine Emmerick (1774-1824) affirms: My angel often accompanies me; sometimes he goes ahead of me; others, by my side. He is always quiet or calm and accompanies his brief responses with a wave of the hand or a nod of the head. He is bright and transparent. Sometimes severe or kind. I speak confidently with him and he gives me instructions. Beside him I feel a heavenly joy.
Saint Faustina Kowalska (1905-1938) writes in her Diary: My angel accompanied me on my journey to Warsaw. When we entered the gate (of the convent) he disappeared … When again we left with the train from Warsaw to Krakow, I saw him again next to me. When we got to the door of the convent, he disappeared.
Padre Pio of Pietrelcina (1887-1968) also had a lot of devotion to his guardian angel. During the First World War he was a soldier and one day, wanting to go to his town of Pietrelcina, he took the bus, but he did not have enough money. He trusted providence, thinking of apologizing. But a strange character, elegantly dressed and with a new suitcase, came up with him and sat next to him. When the collector approached asking for the tickets, Padre Pio was concerned, but the collector told him: «Someone has already paid for you.» He looked at the neighboring character, but said nothing … Upon reaching his town, he got off the bus and looked at his colleague to greet him, but he was gone. He recounted this event many times to his brothers, as if to imply that God had helped him through his angel.
SANTA GEMA GALGANI AND HIS CUSTODIAN ANGEL
THE POSTMAN ANGEL
One of the most beautiful things in the life of Saint Gema is to observe her angel as a humble servant who did her favors of all kinds, even taking her letters to the post to save her postage. Normally, these letters, carried by the angel, were received by Father Germán by ordinary mail. But sometimes he received them through a little bird, under whose figure was his angel
Father Germán wrote to Mrs. Cecilia to prove, if it was really the angel who carried the letters: Regarding the angelic postman, another test could be done. When Gema had already prepared the envelope I told you about, a sealed envelope, she would sign it and give it to you. You take it and put it in a secluded place, placing an image of the venerable Gabriel on top, praying to the Lord that his servant be glorified in this and that he does not allow the enemy to deceive anyone. If after three days the envelope is still in place, you will be kind enough to send it by mail
Mrs. Cecilia wrote Father Germán a letter in which she said: On the 12th a letter was sent to him. Has He received It? She was referred in this way. I gave it to Don Lorenzo, who put it under lock and key on the afternoon of the 12th. On the 13th at about three in the afternoon, I was with the spinning wheel, while Gema was with the child in her arms. Suddenly, she tells me that she has seen the angel pass through Don Lorenzo’s window with the letter in his hand. I immediately ran to call Don Lorenzo, who had the key in his pocket, and I told him: «Let’s instantly see.» We looked and the letter was gone. Tell me right away if he has received it.
Father Germán answered him on June 21, saying: I am receiving at this moment the two letters that you were talking about in your most appreciated last. One has the date 12 and the other comes without it. The two arrived together. God is infinite charity. Why, then, marvel at seeing him so condescending to his creatures
On June 22, 1901, Gema included in the same envelope, to entrust it to the angel, two different letters: one for Father Germán and the other for Mother Josefa. Gema handed them to Mrs. Cecilia. And Mrs. Cecilia, according to orders received, first hid the envelope in the room of Don Lorenzo (a priest who lived in the same house). Then they moved the envelope to the most hidden and impenetrable place in the house, placing it between two images, one of Saint Gabriel de la Dolorosa and the other of Saint Paul of the Cross.
The next day, around two in the afternoon, Mrs. Cecilia was entertaining herself in the dining room, talking with her elder nephew, when Gema appeared and told her that she had seen the angel who was carrying her envelope. She went to the place where she had hidden him and disappeared
Father Germán wrote to Mother Josefa saying: Both letters, yours and mine, were delivered to me by the guardian angel. How? It is known that she spoke of a letter that she felt fall on her desk one night when her brothers were reciting the Office of Matins in the choir. According to the Superior of the Convent of Corneto, during Matins he called a stranger to the door saying that he should urgently deliver a sheet personally to Father Germán. From that day on, Father Germán had no doubts about the angelic messenger.
Father Germán wrote to Mrs. Cecilia: Gema’s letter delivered to the guardian angel reached me on time. Long live Jesus de Gema!
Father Germán affirms: He gave orders to the angel for the Lord, the Virgin or the saints and, on occasions, he entrusted him with closed letters, begging him to bring him an answer, which in fact came very soon. How many tests did I make to make sure that events of this nature were due to supernatural causes. Not a single one failed. I had to convince myself that heaven, so to speak, wanted to play with this young woman as simple as she loved. If he sent his angel with a commission for the people of this world, as he often did, it was surprising that it was not answered.
Father Germán confidentially told Monsignor José Gueri, regent of the Apostolic Date, who in 1930 consigned him by letter to the postulator of the Cause of beatification with these words:
I am fulfilling the task of writing to you all that the lamented Father Germán told me about the truly extraordinary way in which on one occasion he received a letter sent by Gema from Luca.
One morning, when he was surprised at the long time that had passed without hearing from Gema, he felt a bird flutter, brushing its wings against the windowpanes.
At first, he did not give it importance, but as the bird persisted in the same attitude, he approached the window, observing with surprise that it had a letter in its beak and that, instead of being scared, it gave signs of wanting to enter the cell . The father opened the window, the bird entered and, after dropping the letter on the table, flew away.
The letter was from Gema, and since she begged him to answer her soon, he did so immediately, placing the letter outside the window. He closed it and, instantly, saw the bird approach which, taking the letter in its beak, took flight, disappearing from view. Soon after, Gema received an answer
This fact was told me by Father Germán in the same room in which it had happened, adding numerous details
But not only his angel, the angel of Father Germán also acted as a postman. He states: Yesterday I wanted to write to you … I have consigned the letter in the hands of his guardian angel, who has promised to take it to him. Do the same and you do not spend money. How good is his angel!
Father Germán wrote to Gema: Have you seen my angel? I send it to you very often, the same during the day as at night … Does the angel always take your cards from you? All that he has taken up to now I have received and everything you have written to me I have understood
