En su mayoría, los griegos votaron en el referéndum en contra de las medidas de austeridad propuestas por la Troika, y para el Nobel de Economía Paúl Krugman, eso significa una «victoria no solamente para el país heleno, sino para toda Europa».

«Alexis Tsipras y Syriza han logrado una gran victoria en el referéndum reforzándose para lo que venga después. Pero no son los únicos ganadores: toda Europa y la idea europea han conseguido la victoria», escribió en su blog el economista Paul Krugman, galardonado en 2008 con el Premio Nobel.

Anteriormente el economista había reconocido que si fuera griego habría votado por el ‘no’, ya que esto implicaría un «refuerzo de la democracia para Europa».

«Fuimos testigos de que los griegos soportaron una campaña de acoso e intimidación, un intento de asustarlos y obligarlos no solamente a aceptar las demandas de los acreedores, sino también de cambiar su gobierno», opina el economista. «Fue un momento vergonzoso en la historia moderna de Europa y se habría establecido un precedente muy feo si el resultado del referéndum hubiera sido otro».

Barajando la posibilidad del ‘Grexit’, Krugman destaca que no importa si Grecia se queda en la zona euro o no, lo esencial es que el referéndum demuestra que la «democracia es más importante que cualquier acuerdo de la deuda».

Considering the possibility of the ‘Grexit’, Krugman points out that he regardless of whether Greece is on the euro area or not, it is essential that the referendum shows that the «democracy is more important than any debt agreement».
