EL DESAJUSTE DEL MUNDO POR AMÍN MAALOUF

Vamos a la tertulia del University College

Interviene el moderador: el libro de Amín Maalouf, es bastante complejo, se preocupa de las identidades culturales y sus divergencias

Le interrumpe el primero ..¿Qué es eso de las identidades culturales?

Le responde el moderador:identidad cultural es el conjunto de valores, orgullo, tradiciones, símbolos, creencias y modos de comportamiento que funcionan como elemento cohesionador dentro de un grupo social y que actúan como sustrato para que los individuos que lo forman puedan fundamentar su sentimiento de pertenencia.

 Maalouf analiza las identidades del mundo occidental y del oriental, donde la influencia religiosa ha tenido su papel, concretamente el cristianismo y el Islam. Toda la obra del autor intenta en hacernos ver que con diferentes identidades estas divergencias las debemos superar de lo contrario el mundo se hundirá. Así dice: “En esta época en que todas las culturas se ven confrontadas entre si a diario, en que todas las identidades sienten el deseo de afirmarse de forma virulenta, en que todos los países y todas las ciudades tiene que organizar en su seno una convivencia delicada, lo que se trata de saber no es si nuestros prejuicios religiosos, étnicos y culturales son mayores o menores que los de las generaciones anteriores; se trata de saber si sabremos impedir que nuestras sociedades deriven hacia la violencia, el fanatismo y el caos”

Maalouf, considera que tanto la civilización occidental (Europa y EE UU) y la oriental  del Oriente medio han cometido errores en su respectivas convivencias. Siendo él nativo del Libano,zona musulmana reconoce que los árabes han fracasado por sus visiones religiosas del Islam, sobre todo por los conflictos surgidos ante los descendientes de Mahoma: chiitas y sunitas.

Interrumpe el segundo: espera…, que yo también me he leído el libro de Maalouf, y me sorprende su concepto de de “choque de civilizaciones”, aunque es un hombre crítico con la civilización musulmana, matiza algunas cuestiones acerca de sus relaciones con la política que transcribo ..!Si me preocupa las opiniones habituales entre el Islam y la política, es porque en ella está la base mental de ese —choque de civilizaciones—que ensangrienta el mundo y nos ensombrece el porvenir de todos. Desde el momento que se considera que, en el Islam, la religión y la política van indisolublemente unidas, que eso es algo que está en los textos sagrados y constituye una característica inmutable, ello equivale a afincarse en la idea que no dejará nunca de existir.¡..

En todo momento trata en el libro de buscar la convivencia con culturas divergentes, no somos ciudadanos de un país, sino que con la globalización somos ciudadanos de todo el mudo, y todos tenemos que convivir en armonía respetando nuestras creencias religiosas y nuestras identidades.

Aparece el tercero, yo como nos lo recomendó el moderador de la tertulia no he dejado de leer el libro de Maalouf , tengo que reconocer que respecto algunos temas que trata me he quedado sorprendidísimo, concretamente el tema de la guerra de Irak, no defiende ni a Saddam ni a los americanos  a  ambos los pone a caer de un burro. …

¡ Saddam un tirano sanguinario reinó mediante el terror durante un tercio de siglo…y respecto a los americanos comenta ..¡ el cinismo de occidente, una invasión cuya decisión se tomó arguyendo pretextos falsos y haciendo caso omiso de la opinión  y de las instituciones internacionales y cuyo móvil, al menos en parte, fue la voluntad de hacerse con los recursos petrolíferos.

Interviene el cuarto: a mi me ha sorprendido mucho los comentarios sobre la democracia en Iraq, él está convencido que el pueblo deseaba una democracia y que esas incompatibilidades con el Islam  no son reales, .. comenta, como el pueblo Iraquí iba a las urnas, en condiciones excepcionales con la amenaza real de atentados. Así dice.. ¡ lo que sucedió de verdad en Iraq fue que Estados Unidos no supo llevarle la democracia a un  pueblo que soñaba con ella. Cada vez que los Iraquíes tuvieron ocasión de  votar, fueron a votar a millones, jugándose la vida.

Interviene el quinto:   quiero destacar en el libro de Maalouf, su valor de la cultura, como elemento aglutinante de las civilizaciones.asi dice..¡El papel de la cultura es proporcionar a nuestros contemporáneos las herramientas intelectuales y morales que les permitan sobrevivir :nada menos.

Existe algo, no menos fundamental, y que bastaría por si mismo para justificar que la cultura ocupase el centro de nuestra escala de valores. Se trata de la forma en que puede ayudarnos a manejar la diversidad humana. Si tenemos empeño en proteger la paz civil en nuestros países, en nuestras ciudades, en nuestros barrios, y también en todo el planeta; si deseamos que la diversidad humana se traduzca en una coexistencia armoniosa y no en tensiones que generan violencia, no podemos permitirnos ya conocer a los …demás… de forma aproximativa, superficial y burda. Necesitamos conocerlos de forma sutil, de cerca, y hasta diría que en su intimidad.

Interviene el moderador, que duda cabe que el Desajuste del mundo de Amin Maalouf, es un libro interesante y podrían surgir muchas más intervenciones pero tenemos que terminar la tertulia y lo hago con algúna de sus frases.. ¡ en el presente siglo vamos a tener que escoger entre  dos visiones del porvenir. La primera es la de una humanidad dividida en tribus planetarias, que luchan entre si, que se odian pero que, por efecto de la globalización, se nutren cada día más del mismo caldo cultural indiferenciado. La segunda es de una humanidad consciente de su destino común y unida, por eso mismo, en torno a los mismos valores esenciales, pero que sigue desarrollando, más que nunca las expresiones culturales más diversas y más pletóricas, que conserva todas sus lenguas, todas sus tradiciones artísticas, todas sus técnicas, sus sensibilidad, su memoria y sus conocimientos

Por un lado, pues, varias civilizaciones que se enfrentan pero que, culturalmente se imitan y se uniformizan; por otro, una única civilización humana, pero que florece en una infinita diversidad.

Stopped the first one .. What is that cultural identities?

The moderator replied: cultural identity is the set of values, pride, traditions, symbols, beliefs and modes of behavior that operate as a cohesive element within a social group and act as a substrate for the individuals that form the basis for their feeling membership.

Maalouf discusses the identities of western and eastern world, where religious influence has had its role, namely Christianity and Islam. All the work of the author tries to make us see that the different identities of these differences must be overcome, otherwise the world will sink. He says: «In this era when all cultures are confronted with each other daily, in which all identities have a desire to assert the virulent form in all countries and all cities should organize its members a delicate coexistence, which the question is not whether our religious prejudice, ethnic and cultural are higher or lower than those of previous generations, the question is if we can prevent our societies resulting to violence, fanaticism and chaos «

Maalouf, believes that both Western civilization (Europe and USA) and East of the Middle East have made mistakes in their respective coexistence. Being a native of Lebanon, Muslim area recognizes that the Arabs have failed because their religious views of Islam, especially the conflicts that arise from the descendants of Muhammad, Shiites and Sunnis.

Interrupted the second: Wait … I too have read the book, Maalouf, and I’m surprised his concept of «clash of civilizations», while a man critical of Islamic civilization, clarifies some issues about their relationships with  policy. Transcribed  ..! If I’m worried the common views between Islam and politics, is because it is the mental basis of the clash of civilizations — — that bloodied the world and darkens the future of us all. From the moment it is considered that, in Islam, religion and politics are inextricably linked, that is something that is in the sacred texts and is an immutable characteristic, it amounts to settle on the idea that will never cease to exist . ..

At all times in the book is to seek to live with divergent cultures, we are not citizens of a country, but with globalization we are citizens of the world, and we must all live together in harmony, respecting religious beliefs and identities.

 It appears the third, I like what we recommended the moderator of the party have not stopped reading Maalouf’s book, I have to admit that on some issues that I have been aghast about, namely the issue of the Iraq war, does not defend or Saddam and the Americans put them both to fall from a donkey. …

A bloodthirsty tyrant Saddam ruled by terror over a third of a century … and for the Americans said .. the cynicism of the West, an invasion whose decision was taken under false pretenses arguing and ignoring the opinion and international institutions whose motives, at least in part, was the will to seize the oil resources.

Involving the fourth, to my surprised me comments on democracy in Iraq, he is convinced that the people wanted a democracy and that these incompatibility are not real Islam .. comments as the Iraqi people going to the polls, in exceptional cases with the real threat of attacks. So says .. what actually happened in Iraq was the United States was unable to bring democracy to a people who dreamed of her. Every time the Iraqis were able to vote, millions went to vote, risking their lives.

Involving the fifth: I want to emphasize in the book of Maalouf, the value of culture as the glue of civilization so says .. The role of culture is to provide our contemporary intellectual and moral tools that enable them to survive: nothing less.

There is something even more fundamental, and that would be enough by itself to prove that culture is at the heart of our values. This is how you can help us deal with human diversity. If we strive to protect civil peace in our countries, our cities, our neighborhoods, and also throughout the world, if we want human diversity translates into a harmonious coexistence and not tensions that generate violence, we can not afford and meet the … other … so rough, superficial and crude. We need to know in a subtle way, up close, and to say that their privacy.

Spoke moderator, who is no doubt that the mismatch of the world of Amin Maalouf, is an interesting book and many other interventions may arise but we must finish the gathering and do it with some of his phrases .. in this century we will have to choose between two visions of the future. The first is that of a planetary humanity divided into tribes that fight each other, they hate but that the effect of globalization, they feed each day more of the same cultural broth undifferentiated. The second is of a humanity aware of their common destiny and united, for that matter, around the same core values, but still developing, more than ever the most diverse cultural expressions and more plethoric, which retains all languages, all artistic traditions, all its techniques, its sensitivity, memory and knowledge

On the one hand, then, faced several civilizations but, culturally imitate and are standardized on the other, a single human civilization, but which flourishes in an infinite diversity.
