The news spreads

The weeks passed, and the people close to her, seeing her return to her activities, without the help of any food or drink, as if she were a spirit without bodily needs, were amazed, filled with questions and assumptions, they had tried to hide the extraordinary phenomenon, but it had spread through family news, which was transmitted confidentially to those who were informed about the sick woman, so esteemed by all.

«At two thirty in the afternoon five men entered the room, I immediately had the feeling that one of them was a doctor; they began to interrogate me, I don’t know why, my gaze focused especially on one of them, only when they left , I knew it was the doctor; I responded to everything, I did not lack serenity, Jesus knows how much these things cost me, which may end up until my death.

I responded firmly because the truth has only one path; When they asked me about my diet (Oh, what wounds, if only no one knew!), they asked me: «But is it true that he doesn’t eat anything? Nothing!» I didn’t know if the visitors were believers, practitioners or not, but I responded anyway: «I receive Communion every day!» They remained silent for a few moments without a gesture, without a smile, shortly after they retired delicately and respectfully.

And Dr. Araújo ends by stating that in this strange case, there are details of «that his fundamental abstinence is of a biological order, such a duration of liquid abstinence and anuria leaves us in suspense, waiting for some explanation to shed true light.»

The certificate signed by Dr. Dias de Azevedo and Dr. Carlos Alberto de Lima says:

The undersigned, Dr. De Lima and Dr. Dias de Azevedo, certify that, having examined Alejandrina María da Costa, 38 years old, born and resident in the parish of Balasar, we certify that she is a carrier of a compression condition spinal cord which is the cause of his paraplegia.

We also testify that having been hospitalized from June 10 to July 20, 1943, in the Infantile Paralysis Shelter, which is in Foz do Douro, under the direction of Dr. Gomes de Araújo and under surveillance during the day and at night by reliable people eager to investigate the truth, it was verified that his abstinence from solids and liquids was absolute during his confinement, preserving his weight, temperature, respirations, tensions, pulse, blood and mental faculties sensibly normal, constant and lucid. and during those forty days there was no evacuation of feces nor a minimum excretion of urine.

The blood test collected three weeks after her hospitalization was tested and appears normal, so science cannot explain it. Considering the truths of physiology and biochemistry, the survival of this patient cannot be explained due to this abstinence. absolute, during the forty days of confinement, it should be noted that the patient, during that time, answered many questions daily and held many conversations, manifesting the best disposition and the best lucidity of spirit.
