«Christ knew that many, due to their own physical weakness, would feel terrified at the idea of torture…, and he wanted to bring comfort to the spirit with the example of their pain, their sadness, their anguish, their fear. And to the one who was physically constituted in that way, that is, weak and fearful, he wanted to tell him, speaking almost directly: ‘Have courage, you who are so weak; even if you feel tired, sad, frightened and overwhelmed by the terror of cruel torments, have courage: because I too, when I thought of the passion so bitter and painful that hung over me, I felt even more tired, sad, frightened and oppressed for an inner anguish…
