SAINT PIO OF PIETRELCINA

…………..

……..

The angel translated letters for him or acted as an interpreter when people who did not know Italian came. Padre Pio had not studied foreign languages, but he understood them. He had not studied French, but he wrote it. When asked by his director, Father Agustín, who had taught him French, the father responded: If the mission of the guardian angel is great, mine is even greater, because he must act as a teacher explaining other languages to me67.
…..
……….
At the beginning of 1912 it occurred to Father Agustín to value the holiness of Padre Pio, writing to him in languages that he did not know. And between them he began a correspondence in French and Greek. Padre Pio passed the test brilliantly, because he had the letters translated for someone. Regarding this there is a testimony from the parish priest of Pietrelcina who, under oath, certified that Padre Pio, while in Pietrelcina, received a letter from Father Augustine in Greek. The signed testimony reads as follows: “Pietrelcina, August 25, 1919. I, Salvatore Pannullo, parish priest, certify, under oath, that Padre Pio, after receiving this letter, literally explained its contents to me. When asked how he had been able to read and explain it, not knowing Greek, he replied: “You know. “My guardian angel has explained everything to me.”
……..
……..
Father Augustine wrote in his Diary: Padre Pio knew neither French nor Greek. His guardian angel explained everything to him and his father responded well. The help of this unique teacher was so effective that he could write in foreign languages. Among his letters written about him, there are some that, at least in part, were written in French.
