Jesus walks on water

22 Immediately Jesus made the disciples get into the boat and go ahead of him to the other side while he dismissed the crowd. 23 After dismissing the people, he went up the mountain to pray alone. At dusk, he was there by himself, 24 and the boat was already quite far from land, buffeted by the waves, because the wind was against it.

25 In the early morning, Jesus approached them walking on the lake. 26 When the disciples saw him walking on the water, they were terrified.

«He’s a ghost!» They screamed in fear.

27 But Jesus immediately said to them,

«Calm down!» It’s me. Do not be afraid.

28 «Lord, if it’s you,» Peter replied, «send me to you

on the water.

29 «Come,» said Jesus.

Peter got out of the boat and walked on the water towards Jesus.

30 But when he felt the strong wind, he was afraid and began to sink. Then he yelled:

«Lord, save me!»

31 Immediately Jesus stretched out his hand and, holding him down, rebuked him:

«Man of little faith!» Why did you hesitate?

32 When they got into the boat, the wind died down.

Curse of the barren fig tree
