Interviene el moderador: Tenochtitlan, la capital del Imperio azteca, fue fundada en un islote hacia 1325. Ciudad bulliciosa, atravesada por innumerables canales, produjo el asombró de los conquistadores, quienes la compararon con Venecia.

Pero lo que más les admiró fue el recinto ceremonial del Templo Mayor. Con una planta casi cuadrada, de 500 m de lado, integraba al menos setenta y ocho edificios. La conquista de la ciudad por Hernán Cortés en 1521 supuso su destrucción definitiva.

El Templo Mayor y el Recinto del Templo Mayor eran el centro de la vida religiosa mexica y uno de los edificios ceremoniales más famosos de su época, ubicado en lo que hoy es el centro de la Ciudad de México
